Governance and Participation in Public Life (GPPL)

About the project

Background & objectives

The Governance and Participation in Public Life (GPPL) project is implemented by Association Auberge Beity, in partnership with ONDES and with the support of UN Women and the British Embassy. The project aims to strengthen the leadership, governance, and meaningful participation of women municipal councilors in local governance structures across Lebanon.

Implemented between September 2025 and March 2026, the project covered 10 municipalities across 5 Lebanese governorates and targeted 118 municipal council members and staff (41 female, 77 male), particularly newly elected women councilors. We also reached 239 community members who took part in the project activities and focus group discussions (FGDs). Through a comprehensive capacity-building approach, the project enhanced women’s technical knowledge, leadership skills, and ability to design and implement inclusive, gender-responsive local initiatives.
